There are many reasons to learn a new language, but Spanish is especially a great language for English speaking children because both languages have many similarities. ENGLISH & SPANISH share the same alphabet, there are many cognates (Word-friends) such as “Piano”, and similar syntax and little differences in the grammar.
Additionally, our program is aligned with the New York State Common Core Standard (NYSCCS) which means that the children learning the Spanish language, will enhance the learning of English language Arts (ELA) during regular school hours. They explore varieties of storytelling, expand their vocabulary, practice critical thinking, learn new skills, interact and socialize and help them to participate in a diverse and multicultural environment.

There is a maximum of 12 children per group which is led by one (1) teacher. There is a minimum of six (6) children to open a class.
There are two or three groups depending on their grade level and the number of registered children. (Pre- K to 1st grade & 2nd to 5th) with a leading teacher in each group.
The classes are engaging and interactive. There are many activities during class time such as singing, dancing, storytelling in Spanish, circle presentation, the theme lesson of the day and finally, each student will complete a worksheet. Additionally, those children that finish earlier they will have the opportunity to play Spanish board games such as bingo, puzzle, deletreo (Spelling), etc.
This is an immersive Spanish Program for beginner students to expose them to the targeted language. Children will learn to identify, read and repeat Spanish words, read and write in Spanish, sing songs, and play board games to reinforce language acquisition. Also, the students will listen to storytelling in Spanish, learn vocabulary words, simple sentences and phrases; they will also experience phonetic awareness in Spanish, explore sounds to identify Spanish pronunciation and recognize differences with their tongue language in order to enhance the language acquisition. Sometimes, there may be some homework to complete at home. We highly recommend maintaining the Spanish folder with the worksheet activities for the entire semester for home practice and bringing it to every class.
Students will learn the target language according to their age level and background knowledge. We create groups level according to their age and previous knowledge of the language.
Learning a language requires time, effort and persistence. Also, it depends on the personal interest of the child. Learning a language is an ongoing process that never ends, since the language is a living organism. However, your child will be able to read Spanish words, understand those words that he/she reads, learn to answer short questions and write and read sentences. If your child doesn’t speak the language because they are shy or has little confidence it doesn’t meant that the child is not learning the language. Learning a language acquires the practice of four skills: 1 Reading and comprehension, 2. Listening, 3. Writing, and 4. Speaking. If your child doesn’t speak yet, he/she is in a latent moment in which are listening the phonemes /sounds of the new language and they may need time to practice the speaking skill.
The agenda of a regular day is the following:
School Dismissal – 3:30 PM: Transition
*1st to 5th Your child will be dropped off by their classroom teacher at a general meeting area right when the school day ends.
*Pre-K- K students will be picked up from their homeroom by a Teacher or assistant teacher who carry an identification badge.
*During these transition times, students will have a healthy snack or fruit with water. When the weather cooperates, the students will have a supervised play time outdoors.
3:30 PM - 5:00 PM: Instruction
*Students will go to the classroom for instruction.
5:00 PM Dismissal (times may shift depending on school)
*Students will go downstairs for dismissal in the general meeting area where the school day ends. (cafeteria, auditorium, etc.)
*Parents and caregivers will need to sign the attendance roster in order to pick up the child.
After you register your child you will receive an email with the confirmation of the beginning of the program and some details about the first day of the program. The parent coordinator will have the list of students who will attend the class; Thus, the teachers will be informed of who the students that will attend the program are. However, it is a good idea to write a note to the student’s teacher to remind them of the attendance of the child to our after-school program.
Yes, parents must inform us about any allergies to protect your children. We discuss this issue with the parents to provide students with an alternative snack.
Of course, yes you can, but we suggest you let us know the time you need them and who will be picking them up. Please let us know in advance to have the child prepare and reduce distractions to the rest of the class.
No, students must be in attendance during the school day in order to attend afterschool. Children must be dismissed to the afterschool by their classroom teacher.
Yes, you can but you need to contact us first. We need to secure a placement for the students in the school site in which the program takes place.
The students have a transition between the school dismissal time to the beginning of the after school. They have supervised free time to chat with their peers, eat snacks and go to the playground if the weather is nice before the beginning of the class.
Some children adjust immediately to the program even though it is an extended day. Some require more time, or they may be tired. It is very important for the children to sleep 8 to 9 hours in order to be ready and prepare for school. Every child is different, and you can call us to talk about your concerns.
For the after-school program classes, the first two classes would be considered as a trial lesson. If you decide to pull your child out of the program before the two classes, you will receive a refund minus the 10% fee.
